Botanical Stained Glass Course

22 June 2025

I took part in a Botanical Stained Glass workshop at Cambridge District Oddfellows, booked through ClassBento. The workshop was led by Will Burrows.

We were provided with a selection of templates to choose from. I chose a cactus. The workshop focused on the copper foil technique, also known as Tiffany glass.

Over the six-hour session (10:30 am – 4:30 pm), we selected coloured glass, traced and cut our shapes, smoothed the edges with a grinder, applied copper foil, and finally soldered the pieces together.

The photo montage shows my finished cactus: on the left, placed on a cork heat mat after soldering, and on the right, illuminated on a light box. The light box highlights the texture and colour of the glass beautifully. I aimed to create the effect of light falling from the top right, using yellow-green tones for highlights, pale green for mid-tones, and darker green for shaded areas.
