Phytophthora ilicis

21 Dec 2025

Illustration of a holly twig with several spiny green leaves showing brown blotches and pale, faded areas caused by Phytophthora ilicis infection. The stem is yellow-green and the background is plain white.

My Christmas plant disease illustration this year features Phytophthora ilicis, the oomycete responsible for holly leaf blight.

The artwork shows the characteristic brown lesions and pale discolouration spreading across the glossy green leaves of holly, a traditional Christmas plant.
