The painting depicts a single aecidium on a barberry leaf, with chains of pink aecidiospores. Below the aecidium, there is a mass of hyphae amongst the host cells.

This painting is paired with my Wheat Stem Rust painting, which shows Puccinia graminis on its alternative host.
