Four sketches of a leaf, each made with a different pencil set
Four sketches of a pinecone, each made with a different pencil set
Four sketches of an orange rose, each made with a different pencil set

I tested four sets of colouring pencils using three reference images:

  • Top left: Prismacolor & Karismacolor pencils

  • Top right: Faber-Castell Polychromos

  • Bottom left: Derwent Watercolour

  • Bottom right: Derwent Inktense

For each set, I marked the drawing areas with low-tack tape. I then drew the reference images freehand and coloured them in using the respective pencils. My goal was to explore the properties of each set. To avoid bias, I covered completed sketches so I was always drawing the original image, not referencing my previous work.

I don’t have exactly the same colour pencils in each set, so the colours vary.
