I painted Prunus necrotic ringspot virus (PNRSV) on rose.
It’s not possible to tell most ringspot viruses apart based on symptoms alone. Other circumstantial evidence, including infection on nearby plum trees, made it more likely that PNRSV was the cause.
The painting depicts a compound rose leaf with four primary leaflets and one terminal leaflet. There are pale rings on the leaflets, indicating ringspot infection.
The montage is composed of six photographs. Top row: (1) Rose leaf with mottled light-green viral pattern, (2) rose leaf showing distinct pale yellow ringspot circles, (3) pink rose petals with scattered pale flecks. Bottom row: (4) Plum leaf with pale mottling and twisted, distorted shape, (5) plum leaf with several pale circular spots, (6) misshapen plums.
