Seed Gall Nematode, Anguina tritici
Oct 2026
I painted the symptoms of the seed gall nematode, Anguina tritici, on wheat.
The painting shows two wheat ears, one healthy and one infected. The healthy ear is long and compact, while the infected ear is shorter and distorted, with a more open arrangement of spikelets. Infection can cause developing grains to be replaced by hard, dark-coloured galls containing nematodes.
