Foxglove - Digitalis purpurea

12 Jan 2026

Botanical illustration of a foxglove (Digitalis purpurea) with pink bell-shaped flowers, shown beside the chemical structure of digitoxin and the handwritten label “Digitalis purpurea”.

I drew a foxglove (Digitalis purpurea), accompanied by the chemical structure for the cardiac glycoside digitoxin, as a gift for a cardiac surgeon friend.

This was a fun illustration to complete. I’m particularly pleased with the sense of depth in the foxglove flowers.
